3D face and body scanning

For face and body scanning, I use either an Einstar scanner, or a Revopoint Miraco scanner, which has a point distance of down to .2mm.

Both scanners are eye-safe. They are portable and we can provide on-site scanning services if needed, or scan at my studio in Red Hook Brooklyn, or on the Lower East Side in Manhattan.

CAD modeling

If you need a CAD file for manufacturing, or a polygon mesh with clean topology, your scan will need to be
reverse-engineered.

There is currently no one-click solution to create and export a clean CAD model from a 3D scan. The scan needs to be ‘traced’ by a designer in a CAD program like Rhino or SolidWorks.

I work with a network of trusted CAD designers who can reverse-engineer a scan file in Rhino. We can also use Blender or Rhino to make design changes, and prepare the file for manufacturing.

Small object scanning

For small objects and parts, I use a Revopoint MetroY Pro scanner, which has a point distance of 0.2mm. Laser scanning is more effective at imaging dark or reflective surfaces, like metal. We can also reverse-engineer small parts for manufacturing.

Digital sculpting

For very intricate files (eg a scan of a sculpture with organic detail), sometimes it makes more sense to repair the original scan data rather than rebuilding it from scratch. Our team uses ZBrush to smooth, sculpt, and restore detail to 3D scans.

Artwork scanning

We can scan, edit and scale your artwork - either to create a large or monumental sculpture from your original maquette, or to produce a smaller edition from a larger original.

We specialize in the 3D scan-3D print-cast bronze workflow and can provide shop drawings for your foundry.

A 3D scan can be a vital asset for pricing 3D printing, CNC milling and bronze casting, as you can obtain precise measurements of cubic volume and square footage from the scan, and get exact pricing from vendors for all forms of digital fabrication and metal casting.
